A hideaway holiday house Welcome to The Firs 

The Firs is a fabulously private rural retreat situated at the very top of Upper Swaledale, nestled in a valley bottom at the foot of Sleddale, beside the river Swale and surrounded by 5 acres of its own meadows and pastures. 
 
Accessed by a private road (3 gates to open) this delightful, traditional yet substantial Dales farmhouse dates back to at least the seventeenth century and retains many of its original features, stone flagged floors, beamed ceilings, whitewashed walls and a traditional black Yorkshire range.

What does the Firs have to offer? 

 
With six bedrooms, two with king size half testers, a double, a single, a triple sleeper bunk and a small room with a standard bunk there's plenty of space for big families. 
 
Furnished sympathetically, entirely in keeping with a property of its age there are a host of unusual antiques and curios from a bygone era which all add to the feeling that you are taking a step back in time though comfort and practicality have not been sacrificed. 
 
There is nothing quite like an evening sitting beside an open fire but to ensure that modern needs are catered for there is also central heating throughout the property, heated towel rails and a constant supply of hot water.

There's two traditional stone shelved dairies filled with an array of kitchenalia, from pots and pans, dough bowls and blue & white porcelain to milk churns, a back can and even a working double cheese press.

No matter what the weather does you'll have stunning views of some of the finest of Yorkshires countryside. 
 
Trickling becks, hidden bridges, drystone walls and barns dotted throughout the fields and swathes of heather moorland . A perfect place for birdwatchers with countless opportunities to catch sight of lapwings, curlews, black grouse and even, at dusk a family of owls. Even if astronomy isn't your thing you can't fail to be wowed by the wonderfully dark night skies with no light pollution to spoil the starry heavens. 
 
 
With acres of space for you to enjoy, whether it be just pottering about in the fields, enjoying a barbecue on the lawn or just relaxing and watching the children play there could be no more of a peaceful place to take time out to enjoy the fresh air and peace and quiet. A stay at The Firs is your chance to get away from it all and really escape to the country. If you do need to access your phone or the internet during your stay, then a 15-minute drive towards Kirkby Stephen will get you to an area with signal, and many of the pubs and cafes in the area do have Wi-Fi. 
 
Whether you wish to spend time exploring the Dales or just want peace and quiet off the beaten track then the Firs will not disappoint.
